HOLY COMMUNION is offered each Sunday. We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is present in his holy meal. If you believe that Jesus’ body is given for you and that his blood is shed for you, you are welcome to join us at the altar. You may also come forward to be blessed. Hands cupped open indicate an openness to receive communion; hands closed reflect a desire to receive a blessing. White grape juice is available as an alternative to wine.
VISITORS: We want to get to know you! Join us for coffee after the service. Please fill out the visitors’ card in the pew rack. Drop the lower half in the offering plate as your gift today and keep the stained glass portion for your own use.
FAREWELL AND GOD-SPEED TO PASTOR TRUDY-Today is Pastor Trudy’s last Sunday with us. Everyone is invited to the reception at the coffee hour to visit with Pastor Trudy and her children.
NEXT SUNDAY – MARCH 7TH: Special Guest Rev. Leonard Dale of the Central States Synod. Pastor Dale will preach during the worship service that day and lead a discussion about our work in the Partnership for Missional Church process over lunch after the service. We will also conclude our conversation about the Eight Missional Patterns/the colors of our plaid. The youth will provide a chili feed as a fundraiser.
ON SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 7 pm the Grandview University Choir, Des Moines, IA, will present a concert for us and the community at Trinity Lutheran. This is a great opportunity to be a welcoming congregation and showcase our beautiful sanctuary. Since we are hosting this choir we are asked to provide housing for many of the 32 choir students. If you can keep two students on Saturday night, provide Sunday breakfast and return them to Trinity at 9-9:30 am on Sunday please call Walt or Helen Laughlin by March 8th (266-9357) or write your name on the sheet on the bulletin board near the guest book. The Choir will also provide special music for the 10:30 am Sunday service March 21st. Don’t miss these special events! The Choir will be served a meal at 5:30 pm on Saturday. Lutheran Fine Arts will provide the main dish and help in other ways. We are asked to bring a salad or dessert. Call the Laughlins to help do this.
DOORSTEP’S OPERATION SOUP LINE: "Many thanks to Debbie Pomeroy for providing the Trinity Lutheran basket at the Operation Soup Line.” There are 53 churches supporting Doorstep and there were 36 baskets at the silent auction. Also, a big thank you to Helen Laughlin and Liz Utech for providing a dessert in Trinity's name, as well.
CHANGE IN OFFICE HOURS: As a result of the 2010 Budget approved at the annual meeting, Jen Shelley, our secretary, will be in the office Tuesday through Friday, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
CHANGE OF DATE FOR BABY SHOWER: The congregation is invited to a baby shower for Andy & LaVell Winsor on Sunday, March 21st at 12:00 pm in the church basement. A light lunch will be served. Please RSVP to Laurie Jackson, 271-8663, Pam Kobbeman, 379-9480, or Marilyn Hypse, 272-0525. LaVell is registered at Target and Babies R Us.
IF PASTORAL CARE IS NEEDED: Please contact the church office during regular office hours (Tues.-Fri., 9-1). After hours, please contact Council President, Curt Lewis at 785-286-2728.
THE LUTHERAN-February Issue: The feature articles discuss the new social media technologies ( Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Skype…just to name some) and how they are impacting our interactions inside as well as outside congregations, the positives and the negatives. As counterpoints, check out the articles on “Fast Eddie (pp.34-35) and an intentional community of Lutherans (pp. 28-30). (Intentional Community or “new monasticism” is a movement growing among the same generation that is eagerly embracing the social media technologies.) Other articles describe how congregations are expanding their ministry through use of space, creative worship practices, and even passing on the building. Two articles touch on the importance of story in understanding the Bible-“It tells our stories,” writes Professor Rolf Jacobson in the opening article. Another article talks about ministry to sea farers and the special challenges they face in these troubled times. Harps and hospice in Japan…news from Lutherans and other Christians across the country and around the world…a moving encounter from the churchwide assembly…letters from readers…Light Side humor and more! Don’t miss this issue. Free copies are available in the Narthex.
CENTERED LIFE-Bethany House of Studies at Bethnay Lutheran in Lindsborg, March 6th, 9am-3pm. Come explore the Lutheran understating of “vocation” (calling) and consider what it means for you to live a “centered life” that finds its foundation in baptism and gets lived out Monday-Saturday (and Sunday, too!)
